Expert Advice - Choose the Perfect Tile

Join our very own Jim Aaron, VP of Merchandising for Carpet One Floor & Home, for some information on the three basic types of tile flooring: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.

Where Can Tile Be Installed?

Normally you will see tile installed in places like bathrooms and kitchens. There are several other places around your home you can install tile in as well. Since tile can go on your walls, installing them anywhere in your home as an accent is also an option. You can also install tile in finished basements, laundry rooms, and entryways to your home. We even offer tile that can be installed outdoors.

We carry more than just tile flooring, we also carry wall and backsplash tile, which comes in several different forms and materials including glass, metal, and mosaic. Wall tile can be installed on your walls and even in showers. These light-weight tiles are easy to clean and maintain, and are also a long-lasting option.

Typically, backsplash tile is smaller and less durable than floor tile, but it is more design-focused. Floor tile is made to handle heavy foot traffic and other impacts.

Types of Tile

Tile can be made from several different materials, and the three main types of tiles include porcelain, ceramic, and stone. Porcelain and ceramic tile are made with the same materials, but because porcelain is heated at a higher temperature it is classified different. Ceramic and porcelain tiles are stylish and durable, as well as easy to maintain. Since porcelain is denser than ceramic, it can resist moisture better and is more durable under pressure. Our natural stone selection is unique. Since stone slabs are quarried from different locations, no two look alike. This means that natural stone tiles are feature different variances which create a unique look for your floor.
